On October 15th, the Organizing Committee of the 2018 Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai announced that No.1 Chinese player Wang Qiang, who is ranked 23th in the world, is awarded the singles wildcard for this tournament. As a top-ranked female player from China, Wang Qiang is looking forward to her first visit to Zhuhai. Wang Qiang’s participation in the fourth edition of this tournament also adds more Chinese elements to the 2018 Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai.
Qualifying for the WTA Elite Trophy after Zheng Saisai, Zhang Shuai and Peng Shuai is another new experience in Wang Qiang’s tennis career. In this top tournament on the WTA Tour with 700 ranking points, she will do her utmost for a new record on behalf of Chinese tennis players.

There is no doubt that Wang Qiang’s progress in 2018 is amazing. She has won 35 singles matches so far this season, leading to a remarkable rise of her world ranking from 91, the lowest in this season, to 23, her career-high ranking. At Jiangxi Open and Guangzhou Open, Wang Qiang defeated many strong competitors and won two WTA titles, becoming the most outstanding Chinese female tennis player this season as well as the most amazing one in the second half of 2018.
At the Hong Kong Tennis Open, which ended last week, Wang Qiang successfully recovered from an unfavorable deficit by defeating the two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza, which greatly inspired her with confidence. Though she was defeated by the 18-year-old Ukrainian rising star, her excellent performance in the past few months has ranked her 23, her career-high singles ranking. At the same time, she was ranked 22 on the Shine in Zhuhai Leaderboard.
Serial outbreaks made Wang Qiang successfully win the wildcard for the 2018 Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy.
